A Haiku

We watched a really touching show on the Dust Bowl in my U.S. History class yesterday. Survivors discussed their experiences, and the experiences of their parents, and I almost cried a time or two. Their stories were sad, but their strength and determination was encouraging. So was their trust in God. It didn't rain in the midwest for approximately 7 years! (And, I was quite fascinated that it was about 7 years.) Anyways, this haiku came to me today randomly.

Desolate, barren ground.
The wrath of God upon us.
Seven-year Dust Bowl.

So, there it is. I was moved to write a haiku based upon watching an educational show. I am such a nerd.

Well I'm a computer geek so I guess you are allowed to be a nerd. And the haiku ...very very good Laura. I thought that you got that out of a book but you wrote that? Thats cool. If I had a haiku I think it would go something like this:

Hot, red hair.
Such a sexy stud.
Elyow'enay.

Thank you.

Thank you for the compliment. And your haiku, well...it says it all. :-)

You laughing at yourself makes me laugh. :-) But it's very like you Laura, and that makes it all good. Besides it's a good haiku and a subject not easily mocked. Though I have to say Adam's bringing some serious competition...

i don't think I understand a haiku. I mean, I am seriously not trying to insult but it seems like a bunch of words that you just want to put together about whatever. Doesn't seem to take a lot of talent. I could be wrong. But from what I know, yours is a good one.

Well if you think about it....thats all a poem is too..a bunch of words that you just want to put together about whatever. Thats really what anythign written is. A hiaku is just more fun..plus it has a cool name like Haiku so you feel really special when you write one..becuase you can go around and sya "Hey....you wanna hear my Haiku?"

THINK ABOUT IT!

Yeah, haikus are a fairly simple form of poetry...if you know syllables. I never really learned the more elaborate and fun forms of poetry, like sonnets and limmericks. So, I have haikus. Thankfully, you have been blessed with a talent for poetry, Table of Stone, and I get to enjoy yours.
