I have discovered at least two things that summer should always include: afternoons on the porch and reading on a bench in the park.
Sunday afternoon my friends and I sat on the porch and enjoyed lovely conversation (after the boys ended their destruction and violence, otherwise known as Halo). Some enjoyed Mountain Dew, although I think porch sitting should be accompanied with water or sweet tea. Our dear Sister Friend of the church has a hammock, and Table of Stone and I swapped out using it. A radio played softly in the background, and the pool water reflected the sun onto the ceiling. Our Sister Friend also provided a fan. Table of Stone stated well, "This is what every day of summer should be like."
Today, after running errands and missing a meeting, I headed for the Quad at my dear University of Alabama, found my favorite bench, and began to read. I brought two books with me, but I decided on Rule by Secrecy by Jim Marrs. Very good and interesting reading. I also brought with me The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis. It is the fifth in his Narnia series, and also a very good book thus far. Anyways, I think this will be one of my favorite parts about working in Tuscaloosa over the summer. Reading a good book is great fun by itself, but reading a book on the Quad with just enough background noise and shade...well, it's absolutely wonderful.

I have also found that reading outside in the shade is a summer must, whether it be the bible, Shakespeare, Jane Austen, of Hardy Boys. and no, saying "reading outside in the shade" is not redundant, because there can be shady parts in a house, as opposed to sunny parts
also, I think memorizing scripture while you are mowing, is a pretty cool thing.
Oh summer. Gotta love it! I agree whole heartily with everything you said. Seeing that I was one of the group I felt the occassion to be especially wonderful. However, I do find sorrow in the fact that this summer will not be like the summers of yester-year seeing that I have finally become .......an adult. AHHH!!! I cringe at the thought. But alas its true, becuase I have no summer per say because I have work and school...Sad Times! So the Sunday afternoons, and any other available afternoon with my friends is treasured. Since they are few and far between.
Here's to Adulthood! With all its responsibilities and commitments! YEEEEUCCK!!!!!!

AB, what are you reading now? And, how do you memorize scripture while mowing? I would love to try that sometime. I've seen you and Setiago carrying mini versions of scripture in your pocket to memorize. I thought that was a very good way to go about scripture memorization.
AK, while we do have more responsibilities and commitments these days, take joy in knowing that we are experiencing these "growing pains" together. As we have discussed before around the church dinner table, imagine 10 or 15 years down the road...we may be married with kids. Or, we may not. Our lives will have changed but we will still be the same (although hopefully wiser) people, same personalities, experiencing life together as brothers and sisters in Christ. We now discuss work and school, but 10 years down the road we will discuss diapers and spankings. (Woah...that will make you think!) So, all that to say, don't grow up too fast, and take comfort in each of us growing and enjoying the times together, especially on those great summer days.

Good MCAT scores.
Time in Birmingham.
Time back home.
My 4th Freshman Orientation.
Good food.
Good movies!
I think that about wraps up my list.
Being grown up isn't half as fun as growing up. These are the best days of our lives.
Something Creative, I like the trips home, and days off work. Also, good food and movies. Maybe our trips home will overlap sometime, and we can all hangout.
