Christ Satisfies

This song had been on my mind the last couple of weeks. It just sorta popped in there and stuck. This weekend I was blessed to attend a meeting at Pilgrim's Rest PBC in Rainsville, AL. On Saturday morning, Elder Ronald Lawrence preached on Psalm 36:8. It reads:

They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.

He went on to discuss that man is never satisfied. If we have a million dollars, we want two. Whatever goal we set, once we've reached it, we're setting another goal. But, in the house of God, we can be satisfied. The ordinances of God, baptism and the Lord's supper, those are satisfying. And, one day, when we are gathered together to go home to be with the Lord, we will forever be satisfied singing praises to his holy name.

And, it just hit me that the very song I'd been singing and thinking about, was the very subject Elder Lawrence preached on! Isn't the Lord truly amazing?

If I could put together a Christian Music Festival, this is who I would invite. Top 10 only...otherwise, this could get lengthy (not in any particular order). Oh, and I'd call it Resurrection.

What a spiritual experience that would be! Every time I listen to one of these groups, I'm shouting and dancing in my car, praising Jesus. They just lift me up. If only...

Child-like realization

A recent conversation had with one of my friends in pharmacy school:

Friend: I went to see Babel last night.

Me: Yea, what was it about?

Friend: Oh! It was really cool, my boyfriend was explaining to me about how it was this mythology about these people who were building this huge tower to heaven and how the "gods" didn't want them to so he confused their languages so they couldn't talk.

Me: That's not a mythology! That's in the Bible, it happened. God said it did.


Everytime I think about this conversation I laugh at myself. "It happened, God said it did"
Oh, I think sometimes we forget not everybody grew up in God-based/Bible-based home. For that matter, I think we forget sometimes that not EVERYONE is christian. So that was my child-like realization for the week. Do you ever have those? Share.

Early Brainwashing??

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

First, a quick summary, for those of you who may not have had the immense joy of reading this book as a child, or maybe as an adult. It is about a town called (::chuckle::) Chewandswallow that has food in place of weather. It rains soup. It snows mashed potatoes. The "weather reports" tell you what you are having for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But, one day the weather takes a nasty turn. Ketchup tornadoes, giant hamburgers falling! It gets so bad that the people of Chewandswallow have to leave.

Now, fast-forward to today. I was pondering what would move someone to write such a book. (I have no idea why I started pondering such a thing.) Then, it hit me - early brainwashing of children on the effects of global warming. Yep, makes sense doesn't it? Children won't understand global warming, but tell them about a land where the "weather" works perfectly normal and then changes violently one day...well, they'll make the connection when they are older. I can hear the discussion now..."Of course the weather is normal now...but the hurricanes, tornadoes, etc. are increasing, and one day, we'll need to leave because the weather's so bad due to global warming, but where are we going to go? We can't just leave like the people of Chewandswallow!"

So, beware the angle. Not even children's stories are safe anymore.






**Author's Note: I do not really believe Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs was written to brainwash children about global warming. It is truly a delightful book, and I will probably try to find it next time I go home so I can read it again. Nor do I believe in global warming. What a silly idea. Should we take care of the earth - yes. Should we worry about global warming - no. But, with all the hoopla about it, why not have a laugh at it.

Study: Some Children Are Born Bad

Hate to break it to the scientists who probably have studied for years on this very subject, but someone already beat them. They just weren't reading the correct sources...

National Pay a Compliment Day

Heard this morning on 102.5 The Bull, one of Birmingham's Country Stations:

Patty: Today is National Pay a Compliment Day!

Silence. More Silence.

Patty: I like your clavicle.

Bill: Um...you have a very nice Adam's Apple for a girl.

After another brief period of silence, they both burst out at almost the same time:

What were you waiting for? Followed by... I was waiting for you to give me a compliment!


Haha. Patty noted afterwards that compliments have fallen by the wayside to some degree, and encouraged everyone to pay a compliment to someone today.

So, there you have it. Go forth and compliment. It will make you feel happy, and when well spoken and said from the heart, can make the receiver feel marvelously happy as well.
